Anticholinesterase poisoning Flashcards
what are organophosphates?
parathion, malathion, echothiophate
organophosphates how inhibit AChE?
IRREVERSIBLE
where used organophosphates?
insecticides, usually seen in farmers
what are effects by organophosphates? general
muscarinic, nicotinic, CNS effects
organophosphates. muscarinic effect?
DUMBBELSS - diarrhea, urination, miosis, bronchospasm, bradycardia, emesis, lacrimation, sweating, salivation
muscarinic effects reversed by?
atropine - a competitive inhibitor
ATROPINE CROSS BBB so can relieve CNS symptoms
organophosphates. nicotinic effect?
NMJ blockage (mechanism similar to succinylcholine)
nicotinic effect reversed by?
PRALIDOXIME - regenerates AChE if given early.
It quaternary amine - does not cross BBB
organophosphates. CNS effects?
respiratory depression (lethal complication), lethargy, seizures, coma
