Used for bradycardia. When given PO give 30 min before meals. Check History of galucoma, asthma, hypertension. Monitor I&O, Orientation. When given in non-emergency situations make certain client voids before taking drug. Educate client to expect dry mouth, increased respiration and heart rate. Client should avoid heat ( perspiration is decreased). ANTIDOTE: Physostigmine salicylate

Used for Parkinson’s Disease. Increase fluids, bulk foods, and exercise. Taper before discontinuation. Orthostatic hypotension precautions.

Used for motion sickness. Contraindicated in acute angle glaucoma.

Actions
Competes with acetylcholine at receptor sites in autonomic nervous system; causes relaxation of ciliary muscles ( cycloplegia) and dilation of pupil (mydriasis); causes bronchodilation and decreases bronchial secretions, decreases mobility and GI secretions.

SCOPOLAMINE: motion sickness, vertigo, mydriasis for ophthalmic exam, preoperative to dry secretions.
