Antibody Function Flashcards
1
Q
What are antibodies?
A
- They do not destroy pathogens.
- They simply make the process of phagocytosis faster and more efficient
- they also destroy the toxins produced by antitoxins
2
Q
What are opsonins?
A
- Chemicals that bind to and tag foreign cells, making them easily recognizable to phagocytes
3
Q
What are aggultinins?
A
- Causing pathogens carrying antigen-antibody complexes to clump together.
- helps prevent them spreading through the body and makes it easier for phagocytes to engulf a number of pathogens at the same time
4
Q
What are antitoxins?
A
- Binding to the toxins produced by pathogens and making them harmless.
