What is the mode of action?

A

Inhibit steps in the pathway below:

PABA –> DHF –> THF –> pyrimidines

Basically, disrupts the pathway to make folic acid that bacteria have, but we get it from food so we gucci.

Overproduction of PABA (altered enzymes)

What are uses for these drugs?

A

Nocardia is not yet resistant!

Synergistic (Sxt 5:1) for UTI, Salmonella, Shigella
