Antibiotic Drugs Flashcards
The medicine that fights bacterial infections in people and animals.
Antibiotics
The 7 Antimicrobial Drugs
- Antibacterial
- Antituberculars
- Antifungals
- Antivirals
- Antimalarials
- Antihelmintics
- Peptides
Discovered by Alexander Fleming the mold that produced PENICILLIN which was the first antibiotic to be used and marketed.
Antibacterial Drugs
Drugs used to treat infections caused by Mycobacterium bacterial species.
ie. TUBERCOLOSIS
Antituberculosis medication/ antimycobacterium
used to describe fungal infection.
Mycosis
ANTIMALARIAL DRUGS
chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine; mefloquine and quinine - works by inhibiting DNA and RNA polymerase and raises the pH within the parasite which interferes with the parasite’s ability to metabolize and use erythrocyte’s hemoglobin
A drug used to treat infections of animals with parasitic worms.
Anthelmintics
Chemicals that kill or suppress viruses by either destroying virions or inhibiting their ability to replicate.
Antiviral drugs
The two types of antiviral drugs.
Antivirals (non-HIV) and Antiretrovirals
It is used to treat bacterial infections, especially those caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens.
