Anthrology Macroanatomy M1 Flashcards
What are the 3 types of joints
Fibrous, cartilaginous, synovial
What is the fibrous joint and name 2 examples and state the movement
Joint united with fibrous tissue- range of movement dependent of the connecting muscle fibres
e.g suture-> found between the bones of the skull / little movement
syndemosis-> inferior tibiofibular joint, united by fibrous tissue/ partial movement
What is a cartilaginous joint- primary joint give ex
Bones that are united by hyaline cartilage (smooth)- also called a synchondrosis/ slight bending e.g between rib and costal cartilage
What is a cartilaginous joint secondary and give example
Bones that are coveed by hyaline cartilage but joined by fibrocartilage- called a symphysis/ slight movement e.g between pubic bones
Name the 2 synovial joints that are multiaxial and give ex
Ball and socket e.g shoulder joint
plane e.g intercarpal joints
Name 2 synovial joints that are biaxial give ex
saddle e.g thumb
ellipsoid e.g wrist
what are the ranges of movement for a synovial joint
active: the max amount a person can move their joints with muscle
passive: max movement a joint can move when an outside force is applied
Name 2 synovial joints that are uniaxial
hinge e.g elbow
pivot e,g radioulnar joint
What is a bursae
an enclosed sac with serous membrane and found in places with friction to allow smooth movement
