A

inflammation of the anterior portion of the uvea (iris and ciliary body)

A

HLA-B27 and its linked conditions:

  • ankylosing spondylitis
  • reactive arthritis
  • UC, Crohn’s
  • Behcet’s disease
  • sarcoidosis

how is anterior uveitis managed?

A
  1. urgent review by ophthal
  2. cycloplegics (dilates pupil which helps to relieve pain and photophobia) e.g. atropine, cyclopentolate
  3. steroid eye drops

Dx?

A

This is a typical presentation of anterior uveitis with a painful red eye associated with reduced visual acuity, photophobia, a small pupil and ciliary flush.
