Anterior muscles of the upper arm Flashcards
What nerve innervates all of the anterior muscles of the upper arm?
Musculocutaneous nerve
What are the 3 anterior muscles of the upper arm (BBC)?
Biceps Brachii
Brachialis
Coracobrachialis
How many heads does biceps brachii have?
2 heads
Long and short head
Where is the long head of biceps brachii, and what are the sites of origin and attachment?
1 is the long head
Originates from supraglenoid tubercule of scapula, attaches to radial tuberosity
How does biceps brachii contribute to the cubital fossa?
Biceps brachii gives off connective tissue when it forms tendon in forearm, called bicipital aponeurosis
Where bicipital aponeurosis starts to form, is the roof of cubital fossa (goes over the cubital fossa)
Define bicipital aponeurosis?
Connective tissue sheet given off by biceps brachii when it forms tendon in forearm
What is the main function of biceps brachii, and what are its 2 secondary functions?
Main: Forearm supination
Elbow flexion
Shoulder flexion
Where is the short head of biceps brachii, and what are the sites of origin and attachment?
2 is the short head
Originates from coracoid process of scapula, attaches to radial tuberosity
What is the most superficial anterior muscle in the upper arm?
Biceps brachii
Where is coracobrachialis, and what are the sites of origin and attachment?
3
Originates from coracoid process of scapula, then passes through axilla (armpit) to attach to medial surface of humerus at the level of the deltoid tuberosity
What are the 2 functions of coracobrachialis?
Shoulder flexion
Weak shoulder adduction
What is the most distal anterior muscle of the upper arm?
Brachialis
Where is brachialis, and what are the origin and attachment sites?
4
The 2 heads of brachialis originate from medial and lateral surfaces of humerus shaft, attaches to ulnar tuberosity of ulna
What is the function of brachialis?
Elbow flexion
How many heads does brachialis have?
2 heads
