Answer in Complete Sentences Jan 12th Flashcards
Why answer questions using full
sentences?
Full sentences are an important part of
any piece of writing, in lots of subjects.
Learning how to use them is a useful
skill to make your writing easier to read
(and easier to write) Answering questions in complete sentences is also called restating the question. Restating means to answer a question fully using the same or similar words in your answer.
For example…
When writing answers to questions in
class, it’s not time effective to keep
writing out every question, and then
your answer.
BUT…
It’s also not helpful to just write the answer, and not the question. E.g if you see the answer ‘15’ written down in your book, you don’t know what the question was in the first place!
So…
We use full sentences to include detail
and accuracy in our writing.
When answering a question, think about its features.
For example:
What time did John leave for school?
Features…
‘time’ is the main idea of the question
‘John’ is the subject
‘leave’ is the action
So…You need to make sure the 3 features of the question, are included in your answer.
John left for school at 7:30 am.
Examples
Write the questions and your answers on a seperate sheet of paper and give them to me. Make sure to add in the BECAUSE and not just give a simple answer.
What is your favorite thing to do?
Answer: My favorite thing to do is to play on the swings BECAUSE I like how I feel when I am swinging.
Who is your hero? What time is your bedtime? What is your favorite movie. What is your favorite food? Why do you like to read? What is the hardest part of homeschool for you? What do you miss about regular school? What is your favorite subject in school?. Do you like China? What is your favorite book to read?. What are you going to do this weekend? What do you want to do when you grow up? I you could have anything that you want what would it be?
