ANS Regulation Flashcards
What does sympathetic stimulation do in the eye? Parasympathetic?
SYMPATHETIC:
α1 = radial muscle pupillary dilation
β2 = ciliary muscle relaxation
PARASYMPATHETIC:
M3, M2 = sphincter muscle pupillary constriction and ciliary muscle contraction
What does sympathetic stimulation do glands of the head? Parasympathetic?
SYMPATHETIC:
α1 = increased lacrimal and salivary secretion
PARASYMPATHETIC:
M3, M2 = intensely increased lacrimal and salivary secretion
What does sympathetic stimulation do in the lungs? Parasympathetic?
SYMPATHETIC:
β2 = bronchiolar smooth muscle dilation
PARASYMPATHETIC:
M3, M2 = bronchiolar smooth muscle constriction
What does sympathetic stimulation do in the heart? Parasympathetic?
SYMPATHETIC:
β1>β2 = increased SA node heart rate, increased atrial and ventricular contractility/conduction, increased AV node automaticity/conduction
PARASYMPATHETIC:
M2>M3 = decreased SA node heart rate, decreased atrial and ventricular contractility/conduction, decreased AV node conduction
What does sympathetic stimulation do in the blood vessels? Parasympathetic?
SYMPATHETIC:
α1, α2 = constriction
β2 = dilation
What does sympathetic stimulation do in the GI tract? Parasympathetic?
SYMPATHETIC:
α1, α2, β1, β2 = decreased motility
α1 = increased tone and decreased secretion

SYMPATHETIC:
β2 = detrusor relaxation
α1 = sphincter contraction
PARASYMPATHETIC:
M3>M2 = detrusor contraction and sphincter relaxation
What does sympathetic stimulation do in the adrenal medulla?
SYMPATHETIC:
N(N) = secretion of EPI
What does sympathetic stimulation do in the kidney?
SYMPATHETIC:
β1 = increased renin secretion
What does sympathetic stimulation do in the liver?
SYMPATHETIC:
α1 = glycogenolysis
