style of attachment in which children use their mother as a kind of home base, at ease when she is present, when she leave they become upset and go to her as soon as she returns
Securely attached infants
children do not seek proximity to the mother, after the mother has left, they avoid her when she returns as if angered by her behavior
Insecure-avoidant infants
displays positive & negative reaction to mother; show great distress when the mother leaves, as she return they seek contact but hit and kick her
Insecure-resistant or ambivalent infants
inconsistent, contradictory & confusing behavior ,approaching the mother when she returns but not looking at her, initially calm then suddenly breaks into angry weeping.
Disorganized-disoriented infants
controlling, punitive, rigid and cold; their word is law and they value strict, unquestioning obedience.
Authoritarian parents
also called indulgent or nondirective parent; provide lax and inconsistent feedback; require little of their children; place little or no limit or control on their children’s behavior.
Permissive
firm, setting clear and consistent limit; loving and emotionally supportive parents; take time to explain things to their children
Authoritative
no interest, rejecting & indifferent to their child; detached emotionally
Uninvolved or neglecting parents
too little physical discipline would be harmful results in impulsive and overly harsh use of discipline
Spare the rod and spoil the child
