Officer In Charge (OIC) Over All Responsibility
- OIC can also designate other assistant who are responsible for a specific area of operations.
- Supervise range/training area activity & enforce safety requirements.
- Determine when it is safe to fire.
- Maintains communication w/ range control & the unit operating in the range/training area
- Supervises the immediate action & remedial action procedures for misfires, hang-fires, and cook-offs.
Range Safety Officer (RSO) Over All Responsibility
- Ensure that misfire are handle in accordance w/ DA-Pam 385-63/MCO 3570.1c & the appropriate operators manual.
- Enforce all safety regulations.
- Ensures all ammunition is handle correctly.
- Conducts safety briefing to all hands before all live fire exercises.
- Enforces smoking restriction near vehicles, ammunition, petroleum,oil and lubricants.
- Investigates and reports accidents in accordance with all regulations.
- Ensures that weapons on live fire range are pointed towards the impact area at all times.
- Ensures that personnel are clear of the danger area(except as authorized in DA-PAM 385-63), MCO 3570.1C or applicable regulations)
- Checks all ammunition for suspended or restricted lots using TB 9-1300-385 Munitions restriction or suspended.
- Ensures that barriers and guard are in place before starting the exercise.
- Checks for proper identification and qualification and ensures transportaion of medical personnel, if used or required.
- Inspects and clears all wepons following the completion of fire.
OIC
OPENING/OCCUPYING RANGE OR TA
- Moves to the range or training site before the unit arrives.
- Checks communications and, for live fire exercises, ensures that backup communications are available.
- Briefs the RSO, evaluators, and units to be trained.
- Ensures that range equipment is present and operational
- Ensures that the correct range or firing area is occupied.
- Ensures that the impact area is clear of unauthorized personnel and that safety measures directed by the installation commander have been taken (use of barriers to deny access into the impact area and positioning of road guards).
- Ensures that clearance to fire has been obtained from range control.
- Ensures personal awareness of the SDZ for each ammo and each firing position.
- Ensures RSO is present
- Ensures adequate medical support is available
OPS CHIEF

- Sets up additional training areas.
- Supervises ammo, targets, and administrative details.
Master Gunner
Over All Responsibility
- Preparing a SDZ and range overlay, if required.
- Preparinf scaled ranges if required.
- Organizing and setting up range firing exercises.
- Ensuring that range firing exercises are properly conducted.
- Coordinating target array and layout for range firing and qualification.
- Establishing remedial training on site as needed, by coordinating with the LCEs and Plt Sgt to identify crew deficiencies.
- Ensuring that an effective LAV-25 crew evaluator program is implemented for standardization.
RSO
OPENING/OCCUPYING THE RANGE OR TA
- Is physically present at the training site.
- Enures that barriers are closed and/or range guards are posted and briefed of their duties.
- Ensures that no live ammo is present on a non-firing range.
- Inspects storage, handling, and lot number for restricted or suspended ammo.
- Inspects corpsman and vehicles.
- Gives safety brief to everyone before all live-fire exercises.
- Ensures personal awareness of the SDZ for each ammo from each firing position.
- Establish LZ for MEDIVAC requests.
MASTER GUNNER
OPENING/OCCUPYING THE RANGE OR TA
- Gives final briefing to the LCE’s.
- Ensures that concurrent training is set up properly.
- Moves to the range or training area before the firing unit.
- Briefs the OIC of firing and the RSO on the SDZ for each ammo and each firing position.
- Briefs the unit on the conduct of fire, and the tasks, conditions, and standards for each firing evolution.
Operations Chief
Over All Responsibility
Coordinates and supervises the various details and assists the OIC and the RSO in operating the range or training area.
OIC
Closing the Training Site
- Ensure range control has been contacted once firing has terminated.
- Debrief the unit personnel.
- Ensures that the range or training area is cleared in accordance with local regulations and SOP’s.
- Ensures all weapons are cleared. (The vehicle commanders will clear their weapons and the RSO will check them.)
- Reports the number of duds and their approximate location in accordance with local procedures to include ammo malfunctions and accidents in accordance with MCO P5102.1B Hazard Report Manual and MCO. 8025.1E Malfunctions and Defect Reporting.
RSO
Closing the Training Site
- Notifies range control once training has been terminated.
- Checks each vehicle or weapons system to ensure it is cleared.
- Ensures all firing status flags are displayed as per MCRP 3-10D.1.
- Complete ammo expenditure report, and ensure it is turned into S-4 ammo section.
Ammunition NCO
Over All Responsibility
- Check any ammunition resupply to be sure its not restricted or suspended (verifies w/RSO and TB 9-1300-385)
- Issues the correct type and number of rounds (as instructed by the MG) and keeps a running invetory to crosscheck daily expenditures turned in to the RSO.
- Ensures that the ammuniton pad is maintain in an oderly fashion and continually poloced of the links, brass and packaging materials.
Master Gunner
Closing the Training Site
- Coordinates with range personnel for repair of any targets or equipment.
- Gathers appropriate computer and scoring data.
- Debriefs the LCE’s.
- Debiefs the unit leaders.
Target NCO
Over All Responsibility
- Ensure that target are in the proper location on the range
- Ensure that target detail is proficient in the operation and troubleshooting procedures for all target mechanism used.
- Ensure that the target detail has the required equipment and supplies and that pre-positioned target are available when needed.
- Ensure that there are enough spare targets,target mechanism , batteries, patches and other related equipment on the range or training site to support training
- Report to MG any mechanical malfuntion that require prompt replacement to continue firing.
- Ensure that the targets are properly thermalized as required in accordance with TC 25-8.
Requests to establish a temporary firing range must be accompanied by a, _________________ informing the approving g authority of the specific requirements and desired area.

LAV- 25 Crew Evaluator (LCE)
Over all Responsibilty
- Maintain a log containing records of crew
performances.
- Conducts crew Debrief and monitor concurrent training sites during training.
- Assists the MG during the conduct of the range
Corpsman
Over all Responsiblity
- Be assigned a safety vehicle and driver.
- Know how to get to the nearest aid station orhospital.
- Know the radio and telephone operating procedures to use during an air medical evacuation.
- Have an identification card (medical) or a disposition form from the commander stating that he is a qualified corpsman.
- Be properly equipped for emergencies.
OIC
DURING EXERCISE
- Maintains all required comm.
- Ensures that personnel do not move to or from the small-arms or crew-served range firing lines without permission from the OIC or RSO.
- ensures that materiel is not removed from the firing line without permission from the OIC or RSO.
- Monitors the SDZ to ensure that it remains clear.
- Ensures impact area observation to assure projectiles land within prescribed limits.
- Ensures misfires are handled in accordance with the procedures established for the weapon.
- Ensures weapons ore cleared and checked during temporary suspensions of firing.
- Maintains records (type of ammo fired, number of rounds fired, number of duds with approximate location).
- Ensures firing is promptly halted when an unsafe act is observed or reported.

Yellow and Red
The LAV-25 has a malfunction
or misfire. Weapons are pointing at
the target area and are not clear or ammunition
is present. (The weapon arm switch is on
SAFE and manual safety is on; if not, notify
range safety personnel.)

The LAV-25 has a malfunction
and all weapons are clear. The weapon
arm switch is on SAFE and manual safety is
on. There is no ammunition onboard.
