-Deltoid ligament

joint type
hinge joint
types of movement
plantar flexion
dorsi flexion
inversion
eversion
Mechanism of injury for inversion
most common sprain is when inversion causes the anterior talofibular ligament and the calcaneofibular ligament to tear as they get over stretched/ extended.
Predisposing factors
84% of ankle injuries are sprains
- shoe design, the inclined heel increase angle for injury
- football tackles, the surface played on.
- previous injuries - the muscles suppporting the ankle during rotation is weaker (lateral ligaments are at most risk)
Rehabilitation
- proprioceptive treatment should start once initial pain and swelling has subsided.
- P.R.I.C.E
- ROM exercises in the first 72 hours after injury; stretching, strength training and balance exercises.
- avoid running
-ankle taping or a brace can help protect the joint from further injury while its healing
symptoms of injury
pain and swelling, loss of proprioception muscle strength, nerve damage
general info (grade of sprain)
1- minor tear
2-partial tear
3-complete tear
