what are the strict regulations that you must follow to own a banned dog
dog must be muzzled
on lead at all times in public places
must be microchipped, insured and neutered
must be registered on IED dogs
must have a certificate of exemption
how is a banned breed identified
its appearance rather than its breed or name
what do private places require to enter if someone is holding a banned dog in one
a warrant is required but if they already have a warrant for the place for something else and they find the dog they can take the dog away
who will decide if the dog is dangerous

what will be your punishment if you are found guilty in court
£5,000 or 6 month prison sentence
what does the 1997 amendment change in the legislation
court can give sentencing if dog was being aggressive, before it would of been put down
court can decide if animal is put on IED and it will have the same strict rules as a banned breed
what happens if the 1997 amendment is breached
dog will likely be euthanised and the owner will receive a prison sentence or fine
what happens if dog is out of control and it attacks someone
owner will be either fined £5,000 or a 6 month prison sentence
and may not be allowed to own a dog in the future
what happens if you allow your dog to injure someone and you don’t do anything to stop it
2 year prison sentence for owner or fine
what happens is you purposely get your dog to attack someone
owner could be charged 5 years in prison as that kind of behaviour is called “malicious wounding”
