Q

explain Lorenz’s procedure?

A

took a clutch of gosling eggs and divided them into 2 groups. One group was left with their natural mother and the other was placed in a incubator
When the incubator hatched the first moving object they saw was lorenz and they soon started following him around.
to further test this Lorenz marked the two groups to distinguish them and mixed them together. Both Lorenz and the natural mother were present.

Q

what are the lasting effects of imprintining(1952)?

A

its irreversble and long lasting
one of the geese caled martinia slept in bed with Lorenz
IMprinting had a effect on later mate prefrences(sexual prefences)
animals choose to mate with the same kind of animal they imprint on

Q

what were Harlow’s findings?

A

the monkeys spent more time with the cloth covered monkeys whether she had the bottle or not. when played with new objects the monkeys often kept one foot on the cloth covered monkeys for reassurance.

Q

What did Harlow(1959) say about the long lasting effects of early attachment?

A

motherless monkeys, were sexually abnormal as they did not show mating behaviour or cradle their own babies
they were socially abnormal as they froze or fled when approached by other monkeys
there were a critical period for this attachment to develoep
if motherless moneksys spend time with their peers it reversed the effects but only if this happened when thye three months old
