Harlows monkeys: AMRC
A- will soft object serve some functions of mother
M- 16 baby monkeys caged w 2 wire surrogate mothers, 1- harsh wire, 1- covered in cloth, mothers provided milk or no milk, recorded amount time spent w mothers + feeding time + exploration
R- monkeys cuddled, sought comfort when frightened, explored more cloth mother in preference to harsh wire, monkeys w only wire= diarrhoea= sign of distress
C- contact comfort more important to monkeys than food
