Animal Studies Flashcards
Why might psychologists be interested in studying animals in psychology?
To gain knowledge of how animals work or differ to humans.
To gain an insight into human behaviour
Studying animals can offer possible explanations of human behaviour if we accept that humans and animals are basically the same
Psychologist are interested to observe this as attachmen like behaviour in common to a range of species and animals studies can help us understand attachment in humans
Strengths
Convenience and practicality: animals reproduce more rapidly than hymns and therefroe we can study them across the life span far more quickly.
Animals are easier to control than humans which means It is easier to conduct experiments on them because experiments require the control of variables.
Weaknesses
Extrapolation- to conduct something based on the findings of something else
Cost vs benefit
Generalizability to humans
