Function: Needed in small quantities to maintain health

Water
Function: Chemical Reactions to take place in cells
Sources: water, Juice, milk, Fruits and Vegetables
Vitamin C
Collagen Protein, makes up skin, hair, gums, and bones. Deficiency causes Scurvy
Vitamin D
Helps the absorption of calcium. Strong Bones and teeth
Calcium
Strong teeth and bones. Clotting of Blood.
Deficiency of calcium can lead to osteoporosis later in life
Iron
Needed to make Haemoglobin, the pigment in red blood cells that transport oxygen. Deficiency can cause anemia and tiredness
Effects of Malnutrition: Starvation
Insufficient intake of food to meet the body energy’s requirements
Malnutrition: Constipation
Difficulty of defecating
Malnutrition: Blocked coronary artery
Impedes blood flow, coronary heart disease
