A

Aim: to ensure all animals have their welfare needs met
Purpose: to make it illegal for anyone to mistreat animals and allow for intervention before suffering begins
Protect the 5 needs: environment, diet, behaviour, companionship, health

The Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 2006

A

Purpose: to enforce minimum requirements on the transportation of vertebrate animals
Rules: whether an animal can be transported in the first place, length of the journey, if breaks must be taken throughout the journey, provision of food and water, adequate temperature and ventilation, transporter must be able to provide first aid, etc.

The Welfare of Animals at Market Order 1993

A

Aim: to cover what happens to animals when they are at markets and shows
Purpose: to provide additional responsibilities to market operator for the welfare of animals
Rules: animals cannot be sold if pregnant, animals cannot be tied up or suspended off the ground, animals must have enough food/water/bedding/lighting/etc.

A

Aim: to regulate vets
States: only registered vets can operate on animals, which procedures can be carried out by non-vets or by registered vets

A

Aim: to regulate slaughter houses
Rules: that animals are not caused any avoidable pain or suffering, the responsibility for the welfare of animals lies with the persons in authority, the industry is regulated by requiring licenses for people slaughtering or killing animals

A

Aim: to control the risk to the public of dangerous wild animals
Rules: a DWA cannot be kept without a license
