Bateson’s cube:cost benefit analysis
A
- Three axes measuring suffering, certainty of benefit and cost of research
- If the research is high quality, certain to be beneficial and not going to inflict suffering, this would be in the hollow section meaning the research should proceed.
- Painful, low quality research with a lower chance of success will be at the back at the bottom in the solid section and therefore should not proceed.
- The rule is solid should not continue, hollow should.
