2.1.1 The working memory model (Baddeley and Hitch, 1974). Flashcards
Who created the working memory model
Baddeley and hitch
What are the systems in the working memory
Phonological loop - inner ear
Phonological loop split into phonological loop[ and articulatory process
Visuo spatial sketchpad - inner eye
Central executive - is the controller of the slave systems
In 2000 The episodic buffer was added - A temp system that can combine info from all systems
Evaluate Working memory
CREDIBILITY - Good research done -KF case study had brain damage from a motorcycle accident that damaged short term memory - KF could not proccess
Phonological loop
Consists of two components:
- articulately system (extends limit of phonological store)
- phonological store (only able to hold limited amount of verbal information)
Episodic buffer
Slows down information and directs it into long term memory
Visuospatial sketch pad
- Manipulates verbal information and also located information
- information goes into the VSSP through observing images or by retrieving visuospatial information from long term memory
