Animal Behaviour Flashcards
1
Q
Simple reflexes vs Complex reflexes
A
simple reflex: controlled by spinal cord, receptor and motor neuron (afferent and efferent, respectively)
complex reflex: controlled by brainstem or cerebrum
2
Q
Habituation
A
learning pattern
- suppresion of normal start response to stimuli (normal autonomic response becomes background)
once removed, response takes time to recover (spontaneous recovery)
3
Q
Spontaneous recovery
A
- conditioned response reappears but weaker than when it was initially acquired
4
Q
Stimulus discrimination vs Stimulus generalization
A
- discrimination: learn to only respond to within the boundaries
- generalization: respond more and more to outside the range and further away from original
5
Q
Imprinting
A
critical period of early life
- environmental patterns/ objects become accepted permanently as element of behavioural environment
i. e. realizing moving object is mother duck
