-tap root systems
-vascular bundle of stem in ring
-vascular cambium and cork cambium can be present (primary and secondary growth)
monocot characteristics
-1 cotyledon
-mostly advanced flowers with flower parts in multiples of 3
-narrow leaves with parallel primary veins, and sessile (direct) attachment to stem
-leaf sheath is wrapped around stem
-fibrous root systems
-vascular bundles of stem scattered
-vascular cambium absent (predominantly primary growth)
