Iron Supplements
PK: PO or parenteral (if unable to tolerate PO)
leading cause of poisoning fatalities in young children
Vitamin B12 Supplements
PK: PO preferred or IV if neurological s/s are present
Adverse Effects: hypokalemia (due to increased erythrocyte production)
Folic Acid Supplements
PK: PO preferred
Prophylactic use is recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Epoetin alfa, darbepoetin alfa
Exogenous EPO
PK: subQ/IV only
Indications: anemia due to kidney disease, chemo-induced anemia, anemia pre-operatively
Adverse Effects: HTN, CV events
Filgrastim
Exogenous Leukopoietic GF
PK: subQ/IV only
Indications: treat or avoid low WBC
Adverse Effects: leukocytosis, bone pain
Exogenous Thrombopoietin
Indications: idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura, thrombocytopenia with liver disease pre-operatively
