A

Mixture of doctors and priest
Carefully trained, studying the medical papyri recording cases and treatments
Some were general doctors treating soldiers or labourers on hide building projects
All used a variety of treatment- herbal remedies, simple surgery, charms, prayers and chants

A

The Pharoah and his lords were very rich and could afford to spend money employing their own doctors - so the doctors themselves were wealthy enough to spend their time improving their medical knowledge

A

Knew many parts of the bodies anatomy- the heart, lungs, liver and brain and about veins, arteries, muscles and many bones - didn’t know what each part did.
Learnt about the body by examining wounded soldiers or workers injured on building projects; removed and preserve organs after death (embalming)

What new natural theory did the Ancient Egyptians come up with that caused illnesses? Where did it come from?

A

Illnesses was caused when the channels in the body became blocked. The idea came from farming
Egypt was rich for farming; people made sure their crops got plenty of water by digging irrigation channels from the river Nile to their fields.
If those channels kept running the crops grew well but if the channel became blocked, the crops did. It get enough water and died

As long as blood, air and water flowed through the channels around he body people would stay healthy

Took great care to keep clean; probably as part of their religions to stay at peace with Gods.
Washed twice a day and every night in cold water before meals
Used soda, scented oil and ointments as soap
Egyptian ladies shaved their bodies with bronze razors and used make-up that included powdered emerald green copper ore; may have helped reduce eye infection

A

Contained room for washing and bathing but they did not have plumbing to bring Water in and out
People bathed by having a servant pour water over them from a jug
The waste water ran away through a hole in the wall, draining a sunken vase in the floor or into stone drains in the street

Toilets for the poor consisted of a wooden stool with a hole cut in it, above a cup half-filled with sand
