anatomy wk 1-3 Flashcards
what is the origin of pectoralis major?
sternal end of clavicle, sternum, cartilage of ribs 1-7
what is the insertion of pectoralis major?
intertubercular sulcus, greater tubercle of humerus
what is the pectoralis major the prime mover of?
arm flexion
what actions occur in the pectoralis major?
medial rotation, adduction, flexion
what is the origin of the deltoid?
lateral end of clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula
what is the insertion of the deltoid?
deltoid tuberosity of humerus
what are the actions of the deltoid?
- abduction (all fibres)
- flexion/medial rotation (anterior fibres only)
- extension/lateral rotation (posterior)
what nerve innervates the deltoid?
axillary
what is the origin of latissimus dorsi?
lower 6 thoracic and all lumbar vertebrae, lower 3-4 ribs and iliac crest
what is the insertion of the latissimus dorsi?
inter-tubercular sulcus of humerus
what are the actions of the latissimus dorsi?
extension, adduction and medial rotation
what are the four rotator cuff muscles?
- supraspinatus
- infraspinatus
- teres minor
- subscapularis
what is the origin of the supraspinatus?
supraspinous fossa of scapula
what is the insertion of the supraspinatus?
greater tubercle of humerus
what actions are initiated by supraspinatus?
abduction, stabilises shoulder
what is the origin of infraspinatus?
infraspinous fossa of scapula
what is the insertion of infraspinatus?
greater tubercle of humerus
what actions are initiated by the infraspinatus?
lateral rotation of humerus, stabilises humeral head in glenoid cavity
what is the origin of teres minor?
lateral border of scapula
what is the insertion of teres minor?
greater tubercle of humerus
what is the action of teres minor?
lateral rotation of arm, stabilises humeral head
what is the origin of subscapularis?
subscapular fossa of scapula
what is the insertion of subscapularis?
greater tubercle of humerus
what is the actions of subscapularis?
medial rotation of humerus, stabilises humeral head
