Anatomy/Respiration Flashcards
How many times per minute do individuals inhale and exhale during normal respiration?
12-18
List the muscles of inspiration. (5)
- diaphragm
- external intercostals (pulls ribs up and out)
- serrates posterior superior (elevates rib cage)
- levator costarium brevis
- levator costarium longis
List the muscles of expiration.
internal intercostal muscles
latissimus dorsi
rectum abdominis
transverse abdominis
internal obliques
quadratus lumborum
List the structures involved in respiration.
- trachea
- lungs
- bronchi
- spinal column
- sternum (manubrium, corpus, xiphoid process)
- rib cage
Describe the Myoelastic-Aerodynamic theory.
theory of phonation. VF closes – which builds up sub-glottal air pressure – pressure blows the VF apart – VF vibrate – air moves through glottal opening, decreasing pressure – VF are sucked back together
List the laryngeal cartilages.
- hyoid bone
- epiglottis
- thyroid cartilage
- cricoid cartilage
- arytenoids
- corniculates
List the 3 layers of the vocal folds
- epithelium (outer)
- lamina propria (middle)
- vocalis muscle (body)
Aryepiglottic folds
go from arytenoids to larynx and help preserve airway
Ventricular folds
vibrate at times with low frequencies
List the intrinsic muscles involved in phonation.
- internal thyroarytenoid (vibrates and produces phonation)
- cricothyroid (lengthens and tenses VF)
- oblique and transverse arytenoid (adductors)
- posterior cricoarytenoid (abducts)
lateral cricoarytenoid (adducts)
List the elevator extrinsic muscles involved in phonation.
digastric
geniohyoid
mylohyoid
stylohyoid
hyoglossus
genioglossus
List the depressor extrinsic muscles involved in phonation.
thyrohyoid
omohyoid
sternothyroid
sternohyoid
How many teeth do we have?
32
List the parts of the tongue.
tip, blade, dorsum, root, lingual frenulum
List the intrinsic muscles of the tongue.
- superior longitudinal muscle (tip up)
- inferior longitudinal muscle (tip down)
- transverse muscle (elongates tongue)
- vertical muscle (narrows tongue)
