ANATOMY OF LATERAL PELVIC WALL AND PELVIC MASS Flashcards
Which muscles are found in the lateral pelvic wall?
obturator internus, coccgeus, levator ani
What do the majority of arteries of pelvis and perineum arise from?
internal iliac artery
Where does the gonadal artery arise from?
L2 abdominal aorta
Where does the superior rectal artery arise from?
continuation of inferior mesenteric
Which artery is only present in males?
inferior vesical artery
vaginal artery in females
What does the anterior division of the internal iliac tend to supply?
viscera
What does the posterior division of the internal iliac tend to supply?
parietal
Which artery supplies most of the perineum?
internal pudendal artery
What is the median umbilical ligament?
the remnant of the umbilical artery which connected the internal iliac to the placenta through the umbilical cord
Which arteries form the anterior trunk of the internal iliac?
obturator superior and inferior vesical vaginal uterine middle rectal internal pudendal inferior gluteal
Which arteries form the posterior trunk of the internal iliac?
superior gluteal
iliolumbar
lateral sacral
What does the lateral umbilical fold overlie?
the inferior epigastric vessels
What are the medial and median umbilical folds?
medial = remnant of umbilical artery
median = contains urachus
Where does the anterior scrotal artery come from?
external iliac
In males how does the internal iliac artery terminate ?
as dorsal and deep artery of penis
What is the uterine artery replaced with in males?
vas deferens
Give 2 anastomoses of female gonadal circulation
uterine and ovarian arteries
uterine and vaginal arteries
3 ways the pelvic veins drain
- to internal iliac
- via superior rectal to hepatic portal
- via lateral sacral veins into internal vertebral venous plexus
Which ureter is damaged more and why?
the left because the right is constant and crosses external iliac, left is more medial and crosses common iliac
left more likely to be cut when uterine artery being divided
Name some nerves of the lateral wall of the pelvis
obturator nerve sciatic nerve sacral plexus pudendal nerve nerve to levator ani pelvic splanchnic nerves
Which lymph nodes do the superior pelvic viscera drain to ?
external ilaic, common iliac, aortic, thoracic duct, venous system
Which lymph nodes do the inferior pelvic viscera drain to ?
deep perineum, internal iliac, common iliac, aortic, thoracic duct, venous system
Which lymph nodes do the superficial perineum drain to ?
superficial inguinal
