Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards

1
Q

What is the blood supply of the superficial area around the eye

A

Supraorbital and infraorbital artery form a ring around the eye, both stemming from the superficial temporal artery - although infraorbital technically comes from the transverse facial

lacrimal artery comes off the infraorbital artery to supply lacrimus gland/conunctiva

Q

what arteries supply the eye

A

from the ICA the opthalmic artery comes off, then the central retinal, opthalmic, long ciliary and short posterior ciliary arteries comes off them

11
Q

how is the foeva supplied + why

A

diffusion from the choroidal/retinal vessels - because vessels dont tend to grow into it because otherwise there would be sight inteference

16
Q

where does conjunctiva start

A

at the zone between sclera and cornea (limbus)

17
Q

what are the two layers of the iris + what are their features

A

stroma layer - melanocytes (layer which gives eye colour), contains sphincter pupillae mm, avascular
pigmentosa epithelium - blocks light due to increased pigment meaning pupil is the only entry point

18
Q

why does near distance vision go in old age

A

lens loses pliability meaning the near point for accomodation gets further away
