Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards
What is the blood supply of the superficial area around the eye
Supraorbital and infraorbital artery form a ring around the eye, both stemming from the superficial temporal artery - although infraorbital technically comes from the transverse facial
lacrimal artery comes off the infraorbital artery to supply lacrimus gland/conunctiva
what are the 3 gross layers of the eye from inside out
Retina
choroid
Sclera
what is the ora servata and where is it
end of the retina - around the area of the ciliary body
what arteries supply the eye
from the ICA the opthalmic artery comes off, then the central retinal, opthalmic, long ciliary and short posterior ciliary arteries comes off them
what arteries and veins can you see on the retina
coming off the central retinal artery/vein
superior/inferior temporal (lateral) and nasal (medial) aa + vv
superior and inferior macular aa + vv
what is the inner eyeid surface covered by
sclera
what is the fornix
the reflection of the sclera inferiorly and superiorly
where do lacrimal glands drain into
superior fornix
what kind of epithelium does the anterior cornea have
stratified, squamous, non-keratinising epithelium
what kind of epithelium does the posterior cornea have
epithelial cells
how is the foeva supplied + why
diffusion from the choroidal/retinal vessels - because vessels dont tend to grow into it because otherwise there would be sight inteference
what are the 3 subtypes of cone cells and what light do they see
short wavelength - blue
medium wavelength - green
long wavelength - red
what tests can be done to assess colour vision
ishihara plates
city university test
farnsworth 100 hue test (more detaileD)
how do you differentiate exudates and drusen
no haemorrhages present usually indicates drusen
whats the role of conjunctiva
secretes mucin
