Anatomy and Innervation of the Palate Flashcards
1
Q
What is the epithelium of the hard and soft palate?
A
- keratinised stratified squamous epithelium of the hard palate
- non-keratinised stratified squamous epithelium of the soft palate
2

Q
What is the function of the Soft Palate?
A
- stops food entering the nose during swallowing
- directs air into the nose or the mouth during speech, sneezing, coughing & vomiting
- helps to close off the entrance into the oropharynx during the gag reflex
