descending and an ascending branch
what are the 2 branches of the ileocolic artery?
caecal and appendicular branches.
what is the large intestine supplied by?
branches of the superior mesenteric artery
what is the right colic flexure also known as?
hepatic flexure
what does colic mean?
to do with the colon (large intestine)
what is the role of the marginal artery? why is it of clinical importance?

Long, straight arterial branches (called vasa recta)
what does the marginal artery form from?
Forms from the anastomoses (arterial arcade)
what is meckel’s diverticulum? how common is it?
a congenital outpouching or bulge in the lower part of the small intestine. It is a leftover of the umbilical cord.
in 2% of population
what can inflammation of meckel’s diverticulum be confused for?
appendicitis
where is meckel’s diverticulum found? and how long is it?
2 feet from the ileocecal junction
It is 5cm long
how long is the jejunum?
roughly 2.5 m
what is mesentery? what is it formed from?
an organ that attaches the intestines to the posterior abdominal wall in humans and is formed by the double fold of peritoneum
what shape is sigmoid colon?
s shaped
what is the mesentery of transverse colon called?
transverse mesocolon
