Anatomy 2 Final Exam Flashcards
Blood flow toward the heart
VEINS
SUB-SYSTEMS WITHIN VENUS CIRCULATION:
- PORTAL SYSTEM OF THE LIVER
- VENUS SINUSES (DURAL SINUSES)
- AZYGOS SYSTEM
drains blood from digestive organs to liver; 25% of all blood collectively sent to liver; why liver largest organ
PORTAL SYSTEM OF THE LIVER
drain blood from head using gravity; found in outer covering of the brain (head)
VENUS SINUSES (DURAL SINUSES)
group of veins draining blood from thoracic cavity; found in dorsal body wall (thoracic cavity)
AZYGOS SYSTEM
CLASSIFICATIONS FOR VEINS:
- SUPERFICIAL
- DEEP
- DEEP VEINS WHICH ACCOMPANY ARTERIES
- VENA COMITANTES (COMITES)
VEINS OF THE UPPER EXTREMITIES:
Dorsal venous networks of the hands rarely use deep veins for drainage; return blood from hands to heart
VEINS OF THE UPPER EXTREMITIES:
Superficial:
BASILIC VEIN
CEPHALIC VEIN
MEDIAN CUBITAL VEIN
Deep: VENA COMITANTES (of Radial, Ulnar, Brachial Artery)
Unpair/Single Deep:
AXILLARY VEIN (Unpair/Single)
SUBCLAVIAN VEIN
most medial superficial vein of upper extremities; used for drainage. Terminates by joining with Vena Comitantes to form Axillary Vein
BASILIC VEIN
1st unpaired/single deep vein of each upper extremities; begins at junction of Basilic and Vena Comitantes Brachial veins. Just beneath the clavicle
AXILLARY VEIN
most lateral superficial vein of upper extremities; terminates by entering into Axillary Vein
CEPHALIC VEIN
pair of deep veins that surround and accompany the Brachial Artery. Used as visual to locate and raise artery
VENA COMITANTES (OF RADIAL, ULNAR, BRACHIAL aa.)
located in middle of elbow region. Vein used to draw blood
MEDIAN CUBITAL VEIN
first single deep vein of each upper extremity with same name as artery it
accompanies
AXILLARY VEIN
accompanies right subclavian artery; located under clavicle
RIGHT SUBCLAVIAN VEIN
similar to carotid (3 sets) drains blood from outside the scalp/skull
RIGHT EXTERNAL JUGULAR VEIN
most commonly initial point of drainage in non autopsy cases for embalming (part of 3 set) Drains from inside the brain/skull
RIGHT INTERNAL JUGULAR
union of right subclavian and right internal jugular; leads to the SVC
RIGHT BRACIOCAPHALIC VEIN
longer because it crosses over aortic arch. Formed from union of left internal jugular and left subclavian veins; leads to the SVC
LEFT BRACIOCAPHALIC VEIN
2nd largest vein, formed by union of left and right braciocaphalic veins. Drains any blood from head, neck, upper extremities and thoracic cavity
SVC or SUPERIOR VENA CAVA
VEINS OF THE LOWER EXTREMITIES: Superficial:
Superficial:
SHORT (SMALL) SAPHENOUS VEIN
GREAT (LONG) SAPHENOUS VEIN
Deep: VENA COMITANTES (of Dorsalis Pedis, Antitibial, Posterior Tibial arteries)
Unpair/Single Deep:
POPLITEAL VEIN
FEMORAL VEIN
RIGHT EXTERNAL ILIAC VEIN
RIGHT INTERNAL ILIAC VEIN
RIGHT COMMON ILIAC
IVC INFERIOR VENA CAVA
most short/small lateral superficial vein of lower extremities. Terminates by entering popiteal
SHORT (SMALL) SAPHENOUS VEIN
Most Media Longest Superficial vein in body runs entire medial aspect of lower extremities emptying in femoral vein. Most medial vessels in femoral triangle. Used as graft for heart surgery. Never use for drainage!
GREAT (LONG) SAPHENOUS VEIN
