when the hands are at the sides with the palms, toes, and face facing foward
cephalic region
the head; includes both the cranium (skull) and facies (face)

includes the shoulders, arms, forearms. elbows, wrists, and hands

front of the body
posterior
back of the body
superior
being on top or above
inferior
being on the bottom or below
medial
towards the middle of the body (the midline)
lateral
away from the middle
superficial
closer to the surface
deep
further from the surface
proximal
towards the base of the limb that is attached to the trunk of the body (ie. shoulder or hip)
distal
away from the base that is attached to the trunk
prone
lying face down in anatomical position
supine
lying face up in anatomical position
coronal plane
cuts the body between the anterior and posterior side
sagittal plane
cuts the body into a left and right side
mid-sagittal plane
a sagittal plane where the cut goes directly down the middle
transverse plane
cuts the body into superior and inferior parts
