What is the anatomical position?
-Standing upright
-Head and gaze and toes directed forward (anterior)
-Arms adjacent to the sides with the palms facing forwards (anterior)
-Lower limbs close together with the feet parallel
Supine anatomical position
Prone anatomical position
What are the anatomical planes in blue, green, red?
Blue = coronal
Green = Sagittal
Red = Transverse
What are these 3 planes?
Transverse
Sagittal
Coronal
Anatomical descriptions
-Superior (cranial)/ Inferior (caudal)
-Anterior (ventral)/Posterior (dorsal)
-Medial/Lateral
What do proximal and distal mean?
-Used to describe structures that are considered to have a beginning and an end
-Proximal means closer to the origin, distal means further away
Examples of proximal and distal
-Wrist joint is distal to the elbow joint
-Knee joint is proximal to the ankle joint
