Q

What is the frontal plane?

A

The frontal plane is vertical and extends from one side of the body to another (coronal).

An example of movement in the frontal plane is when an athlete performs a jumping jack.

  • The arms move outward and upward to the sides of the body, and the legs also move sideways, all occurring in the frontal plane, which divides the body into front and back halves.

Q

What is the transverse plane?

A

The transverse plane is horizontal and divides the upper and lower body into segments.

An example of movement in the transverse plane is when a person performs a rotational movement like throwing a baseball.

  • As the body rotates around the vertical axis, the torso and shoulders rotate, while the hips remain relatively stable. This movement occurs in the transverse plane, which divides the body into upper and lower halves.

Q

What is the sagittal plane?

A

The sagittal plane is vertical and extends from the front to the back of the body.

Example: A somersault moves in the Sagittal plane and horixontal axis

Q

What is the horizontal axis?

A

The horizontal axis extends from one side to the other side of the body (left to right).

Example: Somersault

Q

What is the longitudinal axis?

A

The longitudinal axis, known as the polar axis, is vertical and runs from head to toe.

Example: doing a spin on ice

Q

What is the antero-posterior axis?

A

The antero-posterior axis extends from the front of the body to the back.

A pole going through the front side to the back side of ur body

Example: is cartwheel is in the antero-posterior axis and in the frontal plane

Opposition

A

When the thumb comes into contact with another finger

17

Resposition

A

When the thumb is returned back to the anatomical position

18
Q

Plantar flexsion

A

Pointing ur toes

Ankle joint only

Example: Tippy toes

19
Q

Dorsifelxion

A

Bending the ankle to point ur toes toward ur shin

Ankle joint only

20
Q

Supnation

A

Palm faces upwards

Wrist joint only

Example: Like holding soup (sup); catching a baseball underhand u have to supinate ur wrist.

21
Q

Pronation

A

palms facing downwards

Dribbling a basketball

22
Q

Aduction

A

Moving a body part towards the middle (towards ur body)

23
Q

Abduction

A

Moving a body part to the side and away from ur body
