Definition of anaphlaxis
Skin Rash +
Cardiovascular, Respiratory or Severe GI sx
OR
Acute onset of hypotension, bronchospasm, upper A/way obstruction
Adrenaline Administration
1:1000 IM Adrenaline 0.01mg/kg –> upto 0.5mg
Repeat every 5mins

1/ 10-20kg (1-5 yr olds)
2/ >20kg (5 yr olds)
3/ Pregnant women
1/ 0.15mg
2/ 0.3mg
3/ 0.3mg
Ways to minimise death in people with history of anaphylaxis
Avoid Triggers Control asthma (poorly controlled asthma → assoc’d with higher mortality) Autoinjector → carry with at all times → know how to use it → uptodate action plan After administration → Lay down or sit up DON’T walk or stand
What’s the PBS criteria for autoinjection?
–> Patient must have been assessed to be at significant risk of anaphylaxis by, or in consultation with a;
Clinical immunologist OR
Allergist OR
Paediatrician OR
Respiratory Physician
–> Patient must have been discharged from hospital or an emergency department after treatment with adrenaline for acute allergic reaction with anaphylaxis.
