Analysing data Flashcards
1) What is a correlation?
A correlation is a link between two factors
Give an example of a correlation that doesn’t show causation.
Pollen levels increase the chance of getting hay fever.
What is peer review
When other scientists check to see if the work you posted is reliable.
Why are repeats carried out in scientific tests
To increase the reliability
Why is pollen a more likely cause of hayfever compared to ice cream sales.
Because pollen is breathed in and affects the airwaves. Whereas there is no sufficient evidence suggesting that ice cream does something in your system.
How is a strong and weak correlation different.
A strong correlation is where if you draw a line of best fit then the data most of the data will fit near perfect whereas a weak correlation is where if you draw a line of best fit through it most won’t fit through.
What is a positive correlation
When one factor increases then another factor increases
What is a negative correlation
When one factor increases the other drops.
