Air pollution-carbon Flashcards
What is the cause and effect of carbon monoxide?
Incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. The effect is that it is a poisonous gas so you could potentially die.
what is the effect and cause of nitrogen monoxide
It is formed when nitrogen and oxygen in the air are at very high temperatures. This happens in car engines where fuels are burnt.
The effect is smog or acid rain
What is the cause and effect of nitrogen dioxide?
The cause is when nitrogen monoxide is in the air it will be exposed to more oxygen and it will form to make nitrogen dioxide
The effects are asthma acid rain
What is the cause and effect of sulphur dioxide
Sulfur comes from impurities in burning fossil fuels. e.g. coal fuel. It is formed in power stations and car engines. The effects are acid rain it can kill plants fishes erode stonework and corrode metals
What is particulate carbon?
Particulate carbon is produced from incomplete burning. It is deposited on surfaces, making them look dirty. It is produced when your burning fossil fuels like coal.
What happens to carbon dioxide?
It is removed by plants when they photosynthesize
Carbon dioxide is also dissolved in sea water or oceans.
