Anabolic Reaction Pt.2 Flashcards
What is Adenosine
diphosphoglucose (ADPG)?
A precursor for glycogen
biosynthesis
What is Uridine diphosphoglucose
(UDPG)?
Precursor of some glucose
derivatives needed for biosynthesis of important polysaccharides that makes important bacteria
Examples: N- acetylglucosamine, N-acetylmuramic acid
Where does the carbon skeleton come from?
Kreb cycle or glycolysis
Describe the details of Biosyntyhesis of Fatty Acids
Fatty acids made 2 carbon atoms at a time and Requires Acyl carrier protein (ACP) that connects sugars together and NADPH converted to NADP to remove oxygen
What is Nucleotide anabolism and the 2 types of biosynthesis of it?
Synthesis of pentose sugar;
Pyrimidine Biosynthesis has an Orotic acid precursor and activated ribose is added with a UMP intermediate -> CTP and TMP
Purine Biosynthesis Starts from amino acids, CO2 and formyl groups, Formyl groups added with the help of folic acid Inosinic acid (IMP) intermediate -> AMP and GMP
Describe the Inhibitors of Nucleotide Synthesis
Methotrexate, aminopterin inhibits tetrahydrofolate to TMP
6 –mercaptopurine Inhibits conversion of IMP to AMP
5 fluoropyrimidine Blocks conversion on UMP to TMP
Sulfonamides block folic acid synthesis
