Amines and Amides Flashcards
Name the three groups of amine.
-Primary, bonded to 2 Hs
-Secondary, bonded to 1 H
-Tertiary, bonded to 0 hs
Define Amide.
Amide has a C=o group bonded adjacently to NH group
Name the 3 amide groups.
Same as amine groups.
Why are shorter chain amines more soluble in water?
-Shorter chains have hydrogen bonds which interact with each other and the water molecules.
Amines of Alkanes, which have a higher boiling point?
-Amines, because of hydrogen bonds being stronger than LDF.
Why do amines act as bases?
-Amines act as bases because lone pair of electrons on nitrogen atom can accept a pair of electrons.
Ammonia + Nitric acid?
Ammonium Nitrate
Ammonia + Hydrochloric acid?
Ammonium chloride
Ammonia + Sulfuric acid?
Ammonium sulpahte
