1
Q
Plants have a life cycle that alternates between a multicellular haploid organism and a multicellular diploid organism.
A
Alternation of Generation
2
Q
multicellular diploid stage.
A
SPOROPHYTE
3
Q
Meiosis in the ________ produces haploid cells called spores.
A
SPOROPHYTE
4
Q
Cells of the gametophyte give rise to gametes by mitosis.
A
GAMETOPHYTE
5
Q
Fusion of two haploid gametes at fertilization results in a diploid zygote, which develops into the next sporophyte generation.
A
GAMETOPHYTE

Q
Life cycle of an Angiosperm (in order)
A
- The megasporocyte divides by meiosis, producing 4 megaspores.
- Each microsporocyte from microsporangium divides by meiosis, producing four microspores
- A microspore develops into a pollen grain. Generative cell of gametophyte will divide forming two sperm. Tube cell will produce pollen tube.
- Each pollen tube elongates through the style. when reaching an ovule, it discharges two sperm
- Double Fertilization occurs. One sperm fertilizes the egg, forming a zygote. other sperm fertilizes the central cell, forming the endosperm
- The zygote develops into an embryo that is packaged along with food into a seed
- When a seed germinates, the embryo develops into a mature sporophyte.
