All Maneuvers Flashcards

Q

Sidestep

A

A visual maneuver accomplished at the completion of an instrument approach to permit a straight-in landing on a parallel runway not more than 1200’ to either side of the runway to which the instrument approach was conducted.

If it is a published instrument approach procedure, it will offer weather minimums in the minima block of the approach plate for the runway.

At other locations this procedure may not be formal, but may be used with the agreement of ATC and the flight crew, and must be conducted in VMC.

Any time an aircraft is flying an instrument approach under IMC conditions and plans to land on another runway, it is considered a circling approach unless there are published sidestep minimums for the runway of intended landing.
