Alkenes Flashcards

1
Q

Q

What makes a carbocation more stable than another

A
  • the major product will be the more stable carbocation
  • because the methyl groups on either/one side of the positive carbon are electron releasing and reduce the charge on the ion
  • inductive effect of alkyl groups

Q

What are the uses of poly(chloroethene) PVC when a plasticiser is added

A
  • when a plasticiser is added the intermolecular forces between polymer chains are weakened
  • which allows the polymer to be more flexible
  • so it can be used in electrical wires, and waterproof clothes
