Alkalis and halogens Flashcards
What is the reactivity pattern in alkalis?
The further down the group the more reactive they get.
What is the reactivity pattern in halogens?
They become less reactive the further down.
What is the melting/boiling point pattern of alkalis?
They have lower boiling/melting points the further down you go
What is the melting/boiling point pattern of halogens?
They have higher boiling/melting point the further down you go
Why can’t halogens conduct electricity?
Because most of them are gases and are found in diatomic molecules covalently bonded, meaning they have no spare electrons.
What compounds do transitional metals make?
Coloured compounds.
What are the properties of transitional metals?
-Hard
-High boiling/melting points
-Good conductors of electricity/heat
-Aren’t as reactive
