Social use of alcohol and other drugs -
While employees have a right to exercise judgement in matters relating to their personal lives,in respect to the use of alcohol and other drugs off duty:
A
- Employees need to bear in mind their professional responsibility to uphold the law, act ethically and manage their own and the organisation’s reputation
- Employees are reminded that the use and possession of illicit drugs are offences under the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 1981

Fitness for duty:
A
- Vic Pol is committed to providing a safe workplace, promoting safe work practices and providing a safe, professional and ethical service to the public
- This commitment is supported by employees who are fit for duty and not affected by alcohol or other drugs

TRAFFIC OFFENCES INVOLVING ALCOHOL OR OTHER DRUGS
Driving a vehicle on or off duty -
Where an employee drives a vehicle in excess of the prescribed concentration of alcohol or prohibited drug:
A
- Welfare assistance will be offered in the first instance
- The employee’s approved driving authority will be withdrawn if on duty
- if offence occurs off duty authority will be withdrawn if civilian licence is suspended
- Disciplinary charges under s. 125 Vic Pol Act or ss. 22 or 33 Public Administration Act 2004 May be laid
