Approach to Airway

A

ASSESS:
obstruction
pooling of secretions facial instability
ability to phonate

STABILIZE:
suction
chin lift and jaw thrust
Oral airway - insert straight depress tongue with depressor

elevate the shoulders and back of infants and young children with a rolled towel or stack of sheets to align plane of face parallel to spine board

ENDOTRACHEAL INTUBATION
Cuffed ETT:
[age/4] + 3.5

Uncuffed ETT: for <1 only
[Age/4] + 4

Depth: 3 x ETT size (cm)

Supraglottic Placement

Needle Cricothyrotomy < 10-12 yrs of age
