Airframe Systems and Components (position and warning & ice & rain) Flashcards
Purpose of antiskid system?
permit effective breaking throughout landing roll regardless of runway
what does antiskid warning light indicate?
that the system is off or there is a system failure
what type of warning devices are usually provided for retractable landing gear?
red light and aural tone
when does the orange device operate in a landing gear warning system?
Throttles retarded and you’re in any position other than down and locked
what type of position indicators are normally used to indicate that the landing gear is down and locked?
Normally there’s a greenlight for each gear.
Which positions of the retractable landing gear normally have a position indicator?
Open locked, down unlocked, in transit.
What is a squat or wait on the wheel switch and where is it located?
Switch that detects if aircraft is on the ground. It will be located in torsion link to main landing gear and prevents accidental traction of the gear while the aircraft is on the ground
what device is used as a sensor to detect the condition of a retractable landing gear?
microswitch WOW Squat switch
when should you check landing gear switches, lights, warning horn, or buzzer for proper operation?
During a landing gear retraction check or swinging the landing gear
how does a takeoff warning horn differ from a landing gear warning horn?
Takeoff horn is intermittent whereas landing gear warning is continuous
what items may cause a takeoff warning horn to operate in a typical transport jet aircraft?
If throttles are advanced and any of the following conditions exist, to takeoff warning horn will sound.
- speed breaks not down.
- What apps not in takeoff range
- Auxiliary power exhaust door open
- Stabilizer not and take a setting
what is the master caution light ?
It is a light that alerts the pilot if there is an abnormal, or a change in condition with one of the aircraft systems.
What is used to indicate the position of wingflaps?
Resistance type remote indicating system
describe operating principle of inflatable deicer boots?
Pneumatic deicing system they use rubber inflatable boots attached to leading edge of the wing and stabilizers. Wings inflate and deflate at the same time.
Why is it critical to prevent the formation of ice on aircraft wings and control surfaces?
Add stress to the airframe, towards the shape of the wing and air flowing over it. Reducing its aerodynamic lift and also weighs down the aircraft.
