7
Q

What is a squat or wait on the wheel switch and where is it located?

A

Switch that detects if aircraft is on the ground. It will be located in torsion link to main landing gear and prevents accidental traction of the gear while the aircraft is on the ground

11
Q

what items may cause a takeoff warning horn to operate in a typical transport jet aircraft?

A

If throttles are advanced and any of the following conditions exist, to takeoff warning horn will sound.

  1. speed breaks not down.
  2. What apps not in takeoff range
  3. Auxiliary power exhaust door open
  4. Stabilizer not and take a setting

14
Q

describe operating principle of inflatable deicer boots?

A

Pneumatic deicing system they use rubber inflatable boots attached to leading edge of the wing and stabilizers. Wings inflate and deflate at the same time.

15
Q

Why is it critical to prevent the formation of ice on aircraft wings and control surfaces?

A

Add stress to the airframe, towards the shape of the wing and air flowing over it. Reducing its aerodynamic lift and also weighs down the aircraft.

16
Q

what are two methods of inflating pneumatic deicer boots?

A

Vacuum pump or bleed air from turbine engine compressor

17
Q

what methods are used to attach deicer boots to the leading edges of wing and tail surfaces?

A

Cement, Fairing strips, screws, or a combination of any method

18
Q

what’s the purpose of an air oil separator in pneumatic deicing system?

A

Removing oil from the air of deicing system to prevent deterioration of rubber deicing boots.

19
Q

What is used to clean deicer boots?

A

Soap and water

20
Q

what must be done before you can make a cold patch repair to a deicer boot?

A

clean, rough the surface of the boot and patch, glue and attach

21
Q

what component of a pneumatic deicer system normally allows suction to be supplied to the boots to hold them down in flight?

A

Solenoid distributor valve

22
Q

describe the operating principle for thermal anti-icing systems?

A

Are used primarily for the purpose of preventing ice forming on the leading edges. Hot air is routed through a double walled space in the leading edges of the wings to melt or prevent ice formation

23
Q

how can you determine if the heater in a pitot is working?

A

Turn it on and feel heat coming from it

24
Q

What methods are used to supply sheet for thermal anti-icing systems?

A

Bleed air from the turbine engine compressor, engine exhaust heat exchanger, and ram air heater by combustion heater

25
Q

How is overheating prevented in a thermal anti-icing system ?

A

using bleed air thermal switch will cause a shut off valve to close and stop the flow of bleed air when the temperature of leading edge reaches approximately 185°F. When the temperature drops the valve opens and heart bleed air enters the wing once again.

26
Q

What is the purpose of the deice electrical timers?

A

Inflate the boots symmetrically

27
Q

In a thermal anti-icing system what happens to the air after it has heated the leading edge of the wing?

A

Air is exhausted to the atmosphere at wingtip or at points where ice formation could be critical.

28
Q

What problems are associated with electrically heated windshields?

A

Delamination, arcing, scratches and discoloration

29
Q

what is windshield delamination?

A

Separation of the plies

30
Q

what does arcing usually indicate in an electrically heated windshield?

A

Breakdown in the conductive of coating

31
Q

name the three methods of removing rain from aircraft windshields.

A

Pneuatic systems, wipers, and Chemical repellent

32
Q

what type of power is used to operate windshield wiper systems?

A

Electrical or hydraulic power

33
Q

what are common problems encountered with windshield wipers?

A

Tendency of aerodynamic forces to reduce wiper blade loading pressure on windshield causes ineffective wiping or streaking. Another problem is achieving fast enough wiper oscillation.

34
Q

How does a pneumatic rain removal system work?

A

Uses high pressure air, the high temperature engine compressor bleeders blown across the windshield, this air blast forms a barrier that prevents raindrops from striking the surface
