Airframe Systems and Components (Fuel Systems) Flashcards
What is the purpose of a fuel dumping system?
means of reducing weight quickly down to the the max landing weight if an emergency occurs during or shortly after takeoff.
Other than reducing weight what other function can be accomplished with fuel jettison system?
Can be used to maintain viral stability by dumping from heavy wing.
What are a few types of fuel cells?
Bladder type fuel cell, integral fuel cell, intra-goal fuel tank, and welded or riveted fuel tank.
How is the weight of a bladder type of cells supported?
The bladder type cell depends on the structure of the cavity in which it sits for the weight of the fuel with in it and maintains the shape of a cell. They are made of either a rubber or nylon impregnated with any of her.
What is wet wing construction?
Fuel cells are built into the wing as part of the aircraft structural using the skin to contain the fuel
what markings must be placed near the fuel filler opening on reset engine aircraft?
AVGAS and minimum fuel grade
what are the advantages of a single point pressure feeling system?
greatly reduced time required to service, also eliminates aircraft skin damage and reduces chance of fuel contamination.
After fueling an aircraft why is it important for a technician to wait at least 30 minutes prior to taking a fuel sample?
to allow time for contaminates to settle into the sumps prior to pulling a fuel sample.
Why should feel sums of aircraft drain before first flight of the day?
To remove any water that has condensed in the fuel and collected in the sump.
What does water look like whenever you and has been draining this songs?
Looks like clear balls of jelly
what is the purpose of a fuel temperature indicator on turbine engine?
Means to check temperature of fuel in the tanks at the engine to determine when there may be danger of ice crystals forming.
What is the purpose of warning lights in connection with fuel system?
Maybe used to indicate when the fuel pressure is too low or to indicate when the fuel quantity in the tank is below a certain amount
where are electrically operated valve in transit indicator lights used?
on large multi engine aircraft, each of the fuel crossfeed and line valves may be provided with valve-in-transit lights. The light is only on during the time the valve is in motion and us off when movement is complete.
Why do fuel selectors have detents?
So the pilot can feel when the switch is in a specific position.
What are four general types of fuel quantity gauges?
Mechanical (linkage)
Electronic (totalizer)
Electrical (transmitter, receiver)
Sight glass (visual)
