What kind of service can you expect to get for an Aircraft emergency alternate criteria, and how would it be depicted?

Answer 1

(E) Depicted by a red circle on charts. 1 suitable runway, (which has been assessed wet runway no wind, up to max landing weight)
No guarantees for manouvering, parking, or take off data.
Basic RFF cover at least cat4.
Pilots should not elect to land at an emergency airfield unless no other suitable alternate is available.
(Some major airfields may be listed as emergency alternates because they are not supported by tech dispatch and may not have take off data, that kind of stuff)

Question 2

What kind of service can you expect from a secondary alternate airfield, and how would you distinguish it on a chart?

Answer 2

(S) Secondary alternates are depicted as yellow.
They have suitable runways, taxiways, and parking.
Basic RFF cover 4 is available as a minimum.
Only basic ground handling facilities may be available and passenger handling is not assured!
In terms of briefing and performance data, you will get:
Landing data, temp landing data, notams in loreto brief.

What kind of service can you expect from a primary alternate airfield, and how would you distinguish it on a chart?

Answer 3

(P) these airfields are depicted as green.
Suitable runways, manouvering, and parking.
A full range of ground handling facilities, including some engineering cover and full RFF.
Performance and briefing data as per secondary, but also get access to full take off data in card too.

Question 4

What kind of service can you expect from a BA destination airfield, and how would you distinguish it on a chart?

Answer 4

(D) blue circles.

These airfields have all a primary alternate would have, but are also BA destinations.

Question 5

What do you understand from the term damp runway?

Answer 5

A damp runway is damp but not so wet as to reflect a shiny surface. Damp runways are however treated as wet for all take off and landing performance calculations in BA.

What are the different types of alternates available as now classified by BA?
