Aircraft Structure Components
Fuselage, wing, empennage
Fuselage Components
- Forward section, radome, nose wheel well, unpressurised equipment locker. 3 left windows are heated. Nose to bulkhead behind pilots.
- Centre section, external diam 269.2 cm, internal diam 248.9 cm
- Aft section, empennage
- Pressurised front of cockpit to rear of baggage
- Main door sealed by 18 psi provided by de ice system. (Forward exit on the 300 is a type 1 door also sealed by 18 psi).
- Emerg doors (and front emerg door in 100) are type 3 compression/bulb sealed doors.
Wings
- High aspect ratio, single span, cantilevered.
- Integral fuel tanks, engine nacelles, main gear mounts, ailerons, flaps, spoilers.
- Tapered outside the engines with 2.5 degree dihedral.
- Large chord single slotted flaps.
- Trims outboard end of trailing edges.
- Lateral control spoilers behind rear spar augment ailerons for roll control.
Empennage
- Integral to the aft fuselage.
- The rudder is in two sections, fore and trailing. Fore is supported by hinges from rear vert stab spar. Trail is hinged to trailing edge of fore rudder.
- Trailing rudder deflects twice of the fore rudder.
- Rudders are hydraulically powered.
Hori Stab
- Full span front and rear spars.
- Partial span centre spar.
Elevator
- In normal ops they move together. But the pitch disconnect system can allow independent control.
- Each has a spring and trim tab.
- Horn balance contains the mass balance and anti ice electrics.
Electrical Power
- Primary power is 28 volts DC from 2 engine driven starter generators and 2 transformer rectifier units.
- 2 x 24 volt NiCad batteries are standard.
- DC power receptacle on the LHS nose for a GPU
- 2 eng driven A/C gena provide 115 volt, 3 phase, variable frequency power for certain equipment and the TRUs.
- AC plug on right engine for GPU.
- AC supports the DC through TRUs so all systems can be run by AC power.
- Some equip need fixed AC. Provided by 3 solid state inverters powered by the DC system. 115 volt @ 400 hertz and 26 volt @ 400 hertz.
Lighting
- All lights are 28 vDC
- Panel and instruments are 5 vDC
- Emerg lighting is 6 vDC charged from batteries charged by 28 vDC.
Master Warning System
- 28 vDC from RHS essential bus through Caution lights 1 circuit breaker.
- If that fails it is powered by right main bus Caution Lights 2 circuit breaker.
Fuel System
- Independent L/R system
- 2 wet wing tanks
- Can be pressure or gravity refuelled
- Can check on the ground with Magna sticks in the bottom of the wings.
Powerplant
300 - PW123 - 2142 hp, up trimmed to 2380 hp
100 - PW120 - 1800 hp, up-trimmed to 2000 hp
Accessory gearbox driven by the hp compressor, engine driven fuel pump, oil pump and the DC starter generator.
Fire Protection
- Heat sensing fire detection in each nacelle.
- Smoke sensing in baggage.
- Engine extinguisher is a 2 shot system.
Pneumatics
- Engine bleed powers; aircon, pressurisation and anti ice.
- Each engine has low/high pressure ports. Modulated to provide proper pressure for all the systems.
Air conditioner
- 100 only has 1 aircon pack.
Hydraulic Power
- 2 independent systems. Each has a engine driven pump and electric standby pump, hydraulic reservoir , Emerg shutoff valve, pressure and return manifolds, ground service connections and all associated indicators, controls and lights.
- Seperate hand pump for Emerg gear extension.
- Landing gear. Flaps, spoilers, rudder , emergency/normal brakes, anti skid and nose wheel steering.
Pitot Static
- Serves flight instruments. Pressurisation control. Air data computers. AFCS. Independent for capt/fo instruments and ADC.
- Alt static available both sides.
Avionics
- Dual vhf.
- Dual vor, adf, dme, marker beacons.
- AFCS includes flight guidance computer , the adc , ahrs, and flight instruments. All integrated.
- Primary flight instruments. ASI, altimeter, IVSI, needle and slip ball.
- Electrically driven AI and HSI, standby AH and compass
Performance
- Max slope +/- 2 %.
- Max tailwind 10 knots.
- Max xwind 36 knots, 20 knots RHS.
- 48.9 degrees or +35 ISA.
- Min -54 degrees.
